A Balanced and Holistic Approach to Healing

Colleen Ramser

People often ask me why I do what I do. I chuckle and say, “Well, because I have trauma, of course!”

Once upon a time, I was full of shame, debilitated by anxiety, and wouldn’t dare identify with a story of trauma. I believed that if I had all the answers and looked good on the outside, then I was safe.

This way of living was not sustainable and came to a screeching halt when I came face-to-face with my story. But finding someone who understood my faith in Jesus and my trauma was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

I began to compassionately listen to the stories my body told. With time, my body shifted from a place of constriction to openness. This process revealed a new language for mind, body, and soul that I bring to everything I do.

This is why I’m passionate about offering a balanced approach to wholeness and flourishing.

It is my greatest privilege to see others flourish in who they are created to be—whether you’re an abuse survivor, a wounded pastor, or a clinician or faith leader hungry to learn. I’m here to witness, empathize, and celebrate your sacred journey.

In my own flourishing, you’ll find me spending time with my family, creating and eating healthy foods, traveling to the next beautiful landscape, growing in my own journey with Christ, and catching as many puns as I can to capture the joy of life.

Therapy Intern Supervised by Colleen Ramser, LPCC-S

  • I believe the greatest gift we can offer others is our transformed and transforming presence. My own story—which intersects deeply with trauma, grief, and loss—shaped my passion for walking alongside others on their healing journeys and inspired me to pursue an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University.

As a therapist, I will hold compassionate space for you to explore the implicit and explicit messages that have shaped how you see yourself and the world. I will help you tend to wounded parts of yourself with self-compassion as you learn to parent and lead those places with care.

I also believe that we are embodied. We cannot think our way out of trauma; we must include the body in healing. As a result, I will be trained to utilize eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in September 2025.

My approach to therapy is also existential, and my hope is that you will find meaning and purpose in the tension and suffering—ultimately leading to wholeness.

Therapeutic Approach

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • EMDR is a trauma-focused therapeutic approach that can help you process distressing memories and reduce their emotional intensity. By using bilateral stimulation, EMDR enables your brain to integrate traumatic memories in a way that lessens their impact and promotes healing. This evidence-based approach is highly effective for trauma, anxiety, depression, and other challenges—helping you find relief and build resilience.

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

  • SE is a body-centered therapeutic approach that can help you heal from trauma by addressing your nervous system’s response to stress. Through gentle awareness of physical sensations, SE enables you to release stored trauma and locate a sense of safety and balance. This approach fosters healing by guiding your body to process unresolved trauma and building your capacity to truly live in the present.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Trauma and other wounds often “divide” us inside, creating what IFS calls “parts” of ourselves. IFS is a therapeutic approach that can help you explore and understand those different parts—like emotions, thoughts, or extreme responses—that may feel in conflict. With guidance, IFS invites you to approach these parts with kindness and grace so you can experience relief and transformation from the burdens you’re carrying.
